Juneteenth and black heritage flags

Juneteenth Commemoration Flag and Black Heritage Flag

Currently-Us.com seeks to reaffirm, celebrate, and highlight Black American lifestyle and culture, along with current and past contributions to America’s fabric. Black Americans, as an ethnic group, have been in this country for generations upon generations, and American culture reflects this every day.

Our shared values, behaviors, beliefs, customs, arts, symbols, and practices characterize a community and provide Black Americans with an ethnic identity that is often emulated worldwide.

We are a patriotic people who have shown persistent loyalty and military service throughout the history of the United States, despite continual struggles for civil rights and recognition.

“You’re the only people that have fought in every war this country has ever had.” -Dr. Claude Anderson

Black American culture is deeply intertwined with and foundational to the broader fabric of American culture, permeating every aspect of society from music and the arts to scientific innovation and social structure, often in ways that are underacknowledged by non-Black individuals.

Here are just a few pervasive cultural and innovative contributions:

Music: Genres such as spirituals, jazz, blues, gospel, rock n roll, country, hip-hop, and R&B either originated or were fundamentally shaped by Black Americans. These musical contributions not only transformed global culture but also continuously redefine American identity.

Inventions & Science: Pioneering inventors like Garrett Morgan, who invented the three-position traffic signal used worldwide to manage traffic flow and enhance safety, Dr. Charles Drew, who revolutionized blood storage and plasma processing, creating the foundation for modern blood banks, Katherine Johnson, a mathematician who calculated critical flight trajectories for early NASA missions, and Jesse Russell, an engineer who revolutionized cellular communications by inventing the digital cellular base station, enabling the shift from analog to digital mobile networks, illustrates the role of Black ingenuity in technological and medical advancement, driving progress that benefits people of all backgrounds.

Language & Arts: Black oral traditions, literature, dance, and forms of expression have continuously influenced mainstream language, fashion, performance, and visual arts in the U.S.

Social and Political Life: Civil rights activism, community organizing, and group economics have redefined justice, equity, and democratic participation across the country.

Ubiquity and Unifying Identity: The innovations, styles, and philosophies of Black Americans have become so embedded in “American” experiences that much of what is called U.S. culture actually reflects Black history, creativity, and resilience.

American society’s flavors, rhythms, and progress are substantially the result of centuries of Black American contributions, whether widely recognized or not.

“For me, the history of the place of Black people in this country is so varied, complex and beautiful. And impactful.” -Toni Morrison
